FAQs about braces & Aligners:

Q:Tell me about Braces and Aligners.

A: Braces can be fixed or removable and can move any teeth in any direction. Removable braces like Invisalign / Clearstep have limited successor in moderate / severe cases. Fixed braces (Six Month Smiles) will move All the teeth in Any desired direction

A: Aligners are removable. Inman Aligner will procline or retrocline upper and lower front four teeth by tipping them in desired direction. Rotations are limited so may require manipulation with an invisible aligner at end of treatment. Teeth can't be pulled down or pushed up.

A: MMA (Manually Made Aligners) are a generic system fabricated by orthodontic laboratories and very well suited to simple movements at the front of the mouth. They are are unparalleled to treat simple relapses and minor cosmetic crowding in front four upper and lower teeth only. Again teeth can't be pulled down or pushed up.

Why Inman Aligners, what are they?

Versatility
  • Is an alternative to Invisible Braces when teeth need proclining / retroclining
  • Allows you to achieve great results using just one appliance. Where teeth are rotated finalising with invisible aligners may be required.
  • Can give you a wonderful smile with less hassle and expense in a shorter period of time. Can be used in severe treatments.
  • Can be removed and inserted as easily as a retainer.

As time goes by, your teeth may tend to shift sometimes causing your front top and bottom teeth to become crooked. At first glance, you must think you need braces, however with the patented Inman Aligner your front teeth can be gently guided to an ideal position quickly and effectively in a matter of weeks. This occasionally happens for adults who had orthodontic treatment when they were younger. The most common treatment is some crowding or moderate rotations of front teeth.

With the introduction of the Inman Aligner, you can return your teeth to their ideal position with minimal hassle, expense and time.

Is the Inman Aligner new?

Patients have been treated with Inman Aligners since 2000. In the United States approximately 450 to 500 new patients are prescribed treatment with Inman Aligners every month.

Is the Inman Aligner comparable to Invisalign?

Invisalign is made of a specialised plastic hence the forces are low and the treatment slower. Inman Aligner incorporates tiny Nickel Titanium springs that are able to maintain a higher constant tension. It is used for treating the top and bottom front teeth only. Invisalign can treat full arches (all your teeth). When the back teeth need treatment ie the arch width is too narrow we can use a pre-treatment to expand the arches and follow with Inman Aligner. The treatment time is usually faster than clear braces.

Will treatment with the Inman Aligner be uncomfortable?

No. Due to the gentle but steady orthodontic forces generated, the appliances are easily tolerated.

Will the Inman Aligner affect my speech?

Yes. The Inman Aligner will affect your speech for a week or two. You will however acclimate to the appliances over time and be able to speak fine with them in place.

Will I need to see the doctor frequently for adjustments?

The Inman Aligners are pre-programmed to reduce the need for office visits. Your doctor will prescribe a treatment due to your needs. The Inman Aligner utilizes a lingual coil spring that puts pressure on the teeth that need repositioning and a labial bar that reverses the same pressure. These components work together to "squeeze" teeth together by pushing and pulling them into alignment. It will take about one week of wearing the Inman Aligner to become acclimated. Like anything foreign to your mouth, it may cause you to salivate more than usual for 24 to 48 hours and could affect your speech for 7 to 10 days. You have the option of not wearing the appliance, however, the longer you wear the Inman Aligner the quicker the results. It is recommended that you wear the appliance for at least 16 to 20 hours a day.

Won't my teeth move back?

A fixed retainer can be bonded to the back of the front teeth to retain the result. This orthodontic wire is very thin and cannot be seen from the front. Alternatively a removable retainer can be worn.

The lnman Aligner achieves controlled and continuous movement of teeth. Precision alignment is accomplished with just one appliance.

How it works

The Inman Aligner utilizes Niti coil spring to create steady, gentle forces It features a lingual component that creates a piston like action and labial components that reverse the same action.

These components work together to create the best spring aligner ever designed.

The lnman Aligner is completely controllable and easily adjusted.

The clinician has the option of adding more Niti if necessary to this strong, comfortabie appliance.

Inman Aligner Testimonial

I first read about the inman aligner in Grazia magazine, and I was heartened to read about a 'brace' which could give results in as little as eight weeks. I was sceptical though, so I did some more research on the internet. I found that the inman had been used in the USA for years but for some reason very few people get to benefit from it in the UK.

I desperately wanted to my teeth to be straight again and certainly didn't want to have to wear the dreaded train tracks! I work as a News Anchor and a Television Journalist, and thanks to High Definition technology, a few teeth out of line can look really bad on screen. So I needed something which I could take in and out but which would work quickly.

So, I was quite nervous when I made my first appointment to see Dr Jamus at Kensington Dental Spa, as my expectations were high but I wasn't sure anything could work that fast!

On the day, he took me through photos of other inman patients and their teeth, which were dated so I could see the progress that they had made. I was also shown what the brace looked like and how it worked – it looks a little scary but is very easy to get used to. Dr. Jamus said it was likely to take 6 to 8 weeks, and based on the photos I decided to go for it.

Its eight weeks later and my teeth are completely straight again. It has been amazing to watch them line up so quickly. I saw a difference within the first two days of wearing the brace and my family were also completely amazed. Not to mention a friend who had been wearing invisalign for almost two years and still hadn't seen the big improvement she was looking for.

I have been making a TV series and was worried that I wouldn't be able to wear the brace as much, or that it would be difficult to talk when the cameras weren't rolling and that I'd feel self conscious. The reality is that the brace takes a bit of getting used to, and it will slightly affect your speech. BUT…it works so quickly you won't care and you'll want to wear it all the time!

I can't recommend it enough, I was promised straight teeth in 6-8 weeks and that's exactly what I've got….

What are Invisible braces like Invisalign and Clearstep?

The invisible way to straighten your teeth without brackets and wires. No one can tell you're straightening your teeth. You can smile more during treatment as well as after.
uses a series of thin, clear removable aligners to straighten your teeth without wires or brackets.

How do Invisible braces work?

You wear each set of removable aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss.

As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move - little by little, week by week - until they have straightened to the final position.

You'll visit your dentist about once every 6 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned.

Total treatment time averages 9-15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from person to person.

No metal and wires usually means you spend less actual time in your dentist's practice getting adjustments.

Specialised plastic pushes teeth, forces are very low. One mould of the teeth are made at the very beginning of treatment.

Everyone is different and response to treatment is unpredictable. Invariably the teeth fail to move in a predictable way in moderate / severe treatments.

Once the first Invisalign Brace is fitted the dentist has no control over treatment. If things don't go to plan he stops treatment and sends a set of new moulds to America. for completely new Invisalign Braces.

This is know as mid-course correction and further lengthens the overall treatment time. Even if the treatment goes broadly to plan usually some refinement is needed at end of treatment.

Invisalign is well suited to mild / moderate treatments for example a patient who once had braces whose teeth have drifted back.

Clearstep attempts to improve on Invisalign by requiring the dentist to take new moulds every few months. However the overall treatment times havn't improved over Invisalign and the aligners are thicker and less comfortable.

You simply remove, brush, floss, rinse and reinsert: Clearstep will do the rest.
